Visual Hierarchies
by David Blodgett

Conclusion

Effectively applying visual principles like size, color, and alignment to your web design practices will guide your users on a journey by improving the site's usability. These principles aligned with Z-pattern and F-pattern layouts will create a clear visual hierarchy.

Using the Z-pattern for landing pages is ideal because it emphasizes key elements like images or videos and it guides the user's eye in a "Z" motion which is ideal for sites with less text. The F-pattern layout is more suited towards text-heavy pages and utilizes repetition to organize its content. Typically, the F-pattern is the most natural way that humans scan a web page making this layout extremely effective.

By using design principles along with natural scanning patterns, web designers can create intuitive websites that take their users on a journey. These design strategies enhance user experience and allow for them to interact with the content easily.
